Hacktoberfest is here again! 🎃 This year, the month-long virtual event to celebrate open source software is run by DigitalOcean and DEV.
In order to participate, you have to contribute to any open source projects during the month of October and open four pull requests to earn a limited edition T-shirt. Pull requests can be made in any GitHub-hosted repositories/projects, and you don’t necessarily need to contribute to code. There are other ways to participate. Here you have all the details.
If you’ve never contributed to open source before, this is a great moment to get started and get involved in a community. This guide is really helpful to learn more about why and how to contribute to open source projects.
Contributing to Frontity
Frontity is an open source project and welcomes contributions in all forms. We are committed to embracing transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, as well as to helping each other learn and give back to the community as much as possible.
Open source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation. We believe that working in an open way and sharing knowledge has the power to change the world for the better.
There are different ways to support this project and get involved. One of the most common is to contribute to code. However, in this post we’re going to see other types of contributions that can help Frontity too.
Documentation is very important and necessary to help developers understand how to get started using Frontity and how the framework itself works.
Although we are continuously working on it, we know our docs (including the contribution guides) aren’t quite up to the task yet. There’s still a lot of work to do.
If you consider that something is not clear enough, find any spelling errors, or would like to add something not covered yet, please feel free to suggest changes/improvements on GitHub or our community forum.
You can also help writing a translation for the project’s documentation. If you’d like to contribute to this, contact us to us and we’ll give you some instructions on how to proceed.
Do you like to write? We’re currently looking for contributors to help with creating content. You can write guides or tutorials for how Frontity can be used.
Before starting to write, feel free to share your ideas on our community forum to get feedback, and of course, ask if you need help from us. We will be happy to guide you on the next steps.
Help the community and give feedback
Sometimes users have many questions, you can help answer them on open issues or on our community forum.
You can also share what you’re building (or have built) to inspire and help others, receive feedback, and be proud of your work!
Besides that, we’re continuously running feedback sessions to improve the framework as Mario explained here. Right now, we’re looking for WordPress and/or React developers to interview so we can understand how they usually work and what challenges they find.
If you’d like to collaborate, please sign up here for a short chat/feedback session.
These are just some of the many ways you can contribute to Frontity. For more ideas or information related to contributing, check out the How to Contribute page of our docs. If you don’t know where to start, feel free to reach out with any questions.
Remember that you can also support the project by starring it on GitHub! ✨
